Important News 4/22/24:

– High School Rugby Practices for 2024 to begin May 23rd.

Central Alabama High School Rugby Sevens = U19

(Ages 14 or 15-18)

Registration for age 14 or 15-18 High School tackle: Date of Birth between 9/2/04 and 9/1/08 (14 year olds can play up) for the year ending 8/31/24.

Cost: The amount of the Birmingham / CAYR team DUES for the 2024 summer season MIGHT be zero dollars. Yes, we are losing money on this again this year but we do accept donations (venmo = @bham-rugby and paypal = bhamrugby@gmail.com. Or you can write a check to “Birmingham Rugby.”  USA Rugby dues will only be $25 for players in the “high school” category, which is players on the U15 and U19 tackle teams.

Style = Boys Only Tackle Rugby (if enough girls are interested we will add a girls division as well). 7s. That means 7 on 7 rather than 15 on 15.

When and Where?

It depends on if you want to practice in Tuscaloosa or Birmingham.

Birmingham Info:

U19 and U15 boys practices will begin May 23, 2024 and likely end around late July or early August. They will be Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5:30 – 7:00 pm at Krebs Field at Ramsay Park (3601 Montclair Road in Birmingham). ALSO, if we have enough players sign up from specific high schools and if we have access to fields near their schools, we will likely be able to have additional practices for specific high school teams, so go ahead and form a whole high school team! No experience necessary. Contact your friends now!

Tuscaloosa Info:

U19 and U15 boys practices will likely be on Mondays and Wednesdays at Hope City Church Recreation Field in Tuscaloosa. Check TeamSnap for up to date info. No experience necessary. Contact your friends now!

Tournaments for the 2024 U19 Tackle Rugby Team:

  • June 29, 2024 = 41st Annual Vulcan 7s in Birmingham, Alabama
  • July 13, 2024 = possibly at Luau 7s in Mobile, Alabama
  • TBD = additional possibilities include Baton Rouge and Memphis

-Krebs Field (at Ramsay Park) is located at 3601 Montclair Road, Birmingham, Alabama
-Matches are handled by coaches and referees certified by USA Rugby.
-Players of certain ages are allowed to “play up” an age group with the permission of a parent or legal guardian, but no player is allowed to “play down.”
